Trip Update 2 – Day 2 – October 2024

VFC Oct 2024 Updates-Day 2 Update 2

As day 2 began, we enjoyed a tasty breakfast prepared by two team members and one girl from the House of Hope (HoH) as we will each day for the remainder of the 2 weeks.

After breakfast David Carlos lead us in our first Bible study on the sermon on the mount as will also continue, through week 1.   David challenged us each to meditate on the seemingly contradictory instructions from Jesus in Matthew 5:13-16 (Salt & Light) and Matthew 5:1-4 (Give to the Needy).

After we ended our morning worship time, we split into two teams. One team assisted Arturo in removing the broken and clogged gutters. The other, larger team emptied out and assessed the mostly electronic items, removed everything from the walls and ceiling, then mudded and prepped the walls for paint. Once emptied, a leak was detected and assessed. Fortunately, Arturo knew exactly how to repair it!   Praise God!

After a light snack, the group went to the school for special needs children. There we were given a lesson on what each of the 4 main classes for the older children:  Cooking, Woodworking, Leathercraft, and Sewing. The staff and some students recognized the April team members and were greeted with warm hugs!

Once back at the HoH, we had a delicious lunch of Nellie’s tomato soup, sandwiches, and leftover pizza.  Then Judy drove Sarah, Joe, and Kit to a store that rivals Home Depot, called Sodimac. The crew took about 4 hours to find what they needed and came back with a car loaded to the gills!

“Once” (pronounced “own- say”) was spaghetti with meat sauce and salad and then we were able to share some very insightful thoughts we had during the day about David Carlos’ question from earlier.

“Amazing love, I know it’s true
It’s my joy to honor You
In all I do I honor You.”
