I Am Very Thankful… For Hope…

Alanis

Hello. My name is Alanis. I turned 20 last semester.

I have been living in House of Hope for a little more than half a year. I am very thankful.

My life has not been very nice. My parents fought and hit each other probably every day or at least that is what I remember most. As far back as I remember my only stable relationship, family speaking, is my sister Nicole. When I was 12 or so they took us away from my parents and left us in a juvenile home. I was very afraid because it was everything I thought of as a prison. From that time I think the most difficult thing was that they separated me from my sister. She went to another home. Over time they allowed us to be together again but we didn’t know anything more about the rest of my family. Since then it has always been the two of us against everything.

Bad Decisions. Better Options.

I made very bad decisions at the age of 15. I left the system and lived with different people. Many said they would take care of me, many times I thought they loved me… I came to live with a man who seemed different but over time he became more and more violent. One day I thought that I had only completed the 7th grade and I was ashamed to think that at my age I had not achieved anything. I approached House of Hope looking for a different option and I thank God because they accepted me. Since I have lived here I have been studying again. It is difficult for me sometimes, but I believe that just as we study in devotions at the home, there is a God who loves me and will help me get ahead.

Thank you all.

Can you help give the gift of Hope to others like Alanis?
