October 2010 Trip – Team 2 – Update #1

Hi! My name is Diane and I will be sending you periodic updates on the exciting things that Team #2 is doing. Nine team members arrived safely Sunday morning and joined those from Team #1 who are staying the entire 30 days. Out of the 16 team members, Andrew is the only rookie on Team #2. He is in good hands with the veterans on the team.

After lunch on Sunday part of the group walked down the street to the House of Hope to see the finished product of last year’s project and to see the progress that Team #1 had accomplished with building the caretakers house. Sunday night was spent enjoying pizza and taking time introducing ourselves and sharing one of our favorite memories from previous years trips to Chile. It was a great time of reminiscing and laughing over the funny stories.

Monday morning after breakfast, Mickey and Jessica led us in worship and John shared a short devotional on unity and God’s love. We arrived at the work site ready to work on the house. Bob and Mickey began working on the electrical installation. Dennis and Andrew worked on the building wrap in preparation for the siding. Others worked on interior framing and a team effort was required to lift and hammer the main beam for the front porch. Debby and Diane are the cooks for Team #2. She and I also assist Patti with preparing lunch at the House of Hope.

The highlight of Monday was eating dinner with the girls at the Hogar. We split up in groups of 2-3 ( including a translator), and 7 of the team members shared their testimonies with the girls and the Tia in each house. It was a great time of talking with the girls about their favorite subjects in school, what they want to be when they grow up and most importantly, telling them about God’s love for them.

Please continue to pray for those under the weather. Lee is still not feeling well. Ryan woke up this morning not feeling well, so he is resting. Team #2 is saying goodbye to Bill and Jane Imes who leave this evening to return to the States. Bill stayed a few extra days to turn the reigns over to Kerry, our El Jeffe.

P.S. The weather here has been absolutely gorgeous. We have been enjoying working under the clear blue skies.

In His Love,

Diane
