¡Hola! My name is Allison Benson and I have been an intern at the House of Hope for the summer of 2013. It has been a blessed journey and growing experience!
Through my time here I have gotten involved with ministries, grown in my walk with Christ, and have built lasting friendships. One of many favorite things that I was able to do was assist the English teacher, Tia Lucy, at the Forjadores del Futuro School every morning with her classes. Working with 1st graders all the way up to 8th graders helped prepare me for my future career as a teacher. I always looked forward to my mornings at the school, getting Chilean hugs and kisses, seeing the smiles of the students, and sharing the love of Christ. Though some days the students were difficult, there were many moments that made it all worth it! I will always remember the moment during English class when a 4th grader suddenly grabbed and hugged me, not wanting to let go. He looked up to me and just smiled clinging to my leg. The time at the school has forever changed me and I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to serve God there.
My time at the House of Hope with the girls has been filled with many sweet memories and long nights of laughter. Getting to live with and learn about each girl at the House of Hope has made a huge impact in my life. Hearing their stories, teaching them English, reading God’s Word together, and meeting their families can’t be summed up in a few sentences. It has been a true blessing! Every week I would have individual English lessons with the girls and have one-on-one time with them. Building friendships and bringing God’s Word into the English lessons was an awesome experience. Through my time here I really understood and saw how wonderful the ministry of the House of Hope is. It is making a difference in La Pintana, Chile and I got to be a part of that! The girls here do have hope in a broken city and that is through Jesus Christ. Jeremiah 29:11,
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
