Community work

Four weeks ago I started to work at two different schools in La Pintana. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays I am helping at the „Forjadores del Fututo“-School, on Thursdays and Fridays I go to the „Las Rosas“-School, which is a special needs school. The work at these two schools is completely different, which makes it very interesting! At the „Forjadores del Futuro“-School I am helping in grade 3. There are almost 25 children in the classroom and it is sometimes difficult to work with all of them. Sometimes I repeat myself over and over again, saying: „Keep on working…sit down…copy the question from the blackboard…please finish your task now …“ but I think it is worth the trouble if the children can be proud of themselves after finishing a task and getting good grades for it. It makes me happy to see them content about their work.In the last week the children and their teacher started to prepare for the national holiday around the 18th of September, which will be celebrated in school with performances of different dances. One day they practiced to dance „Cueca“, which is the national dance of Chile. It is great for me to have the opportunity to be part of that, as I have never seen something comparable at a German school.

Amanda Update

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35

The joy I have been receiving while working at the schools La Rosas and Miguel Angel has been unexplainable.  I go to Miguel Angels with a girl from Casa Esperanza and help with English on Mondays and Wednesdays, on Thursdays and Friday’s I go to La Rosa’s which is a special needs school. Working at the schools has taught me to be creative with showing the love of Christ and serving. Some days the teachers say they do not need any help so one day I colored with a girl who could not speak all day. I went home feeling a little discouraged because I didn’t really do anything but I next day when I arrived she had the biggest smile on her face and ran towards me to give me a hug. God taught me in the moment that just a small act of kindness such as coloring with a girl is still kingdom work and is showing love. Continue reading Amanda Update

Bicycles in la Pintana

Thanks Jesus, thanks sponsor

CasaEsperanza just received 30 bicycles! Ten will stay there for our girls (and plan B boys) while 20 will be shared with local orphanages (hogares). What a blessing!

Update Team VFC

As I am writing this update, I am sitting on the plane waiting to take off in Charlotte. Dick, Lee and Bob have departed leaving Tom and Kerry to continue the march!

The work continued in preparing the rooms in the new building for painting. It is surprising how much time the little details take. The area around the windows had drywall, metal corner bead and “mud” applied. Tile was put on the floor of the kitchen area and the walls of two of the bathrooms. Drywall patches put in where door sizes changed and most of the “rough” areas given a smoothing last cost of mud – along with much sanding! We had two ladies out from the San Marcos Church who did above and beyond in cleaning up the messes we were making! Looking at Lee reminded me of “being whiter than snow.”
