Our fourth year at the House of Hope!

HOH HAPPY B 2014 This is our fourth year at the House of Hope!  I must admit that what I had envisioned is not exactly what is happening.  I expected that we would be absolutely full and planning on additional House of Hopes.  We can provide shelter, food and an education but it is harder to defeat the demons that dwell deep within each of the girls we have ministered to.  This defeat takes love, compassion, time but most of all a relationship with the Great Physician and Healer!  Even so, these demons – fears, memories, remorse, guilt and others – come to the surface all too often.  We have had several girls over the past four years that have moved into the House of Hope and have left.  Some have finished their high school educations but this year, some have not.  We cannot give up but must continue to work in the lives of these older girls. One change that has occurred over the past year is a renewed desire to reach La Pintana for Christ.  This has caused us to look at the younger aged children of La Pintana.  The graduation rate for La Pintana from high school is about 30%.  We began working in one of the schools helping teach English.  Then we were instrumental in beginning a band at that same school.  What a change in the lives of those involved in this band!  The new building at the House of Hope is not yet fully completed but is already being used to teach music in the neighborhood.  It also is being used to have a Kids Zone each week to teach children about Jesus.  Our goal was initially to finish enough of the building for use by the microbusiness.  Now we are filling the partially completed rooms with children learning how to play musical instruments.  This is only the beginning!  We have a burden for reaching the younger children and helping them prepare for a brighter future! PROV 22 Just as we incorporated in the United States as Vision for Children, we are changing our non-profit in Chile to be Vision for Children – Chile.  Our focus is not only on the needs of the young ladies but also the children and the community. Our name change in the United States was based on a desire to go into other countries.  By the time you read this, we will have a property donated to us in New York which will be used as a House of Hope right here in the USA!  We are excited in the direction that God is leading us! I am honored to be able to work with Vision for Children.  Would you like to help us expand our borders?  Please donate now and help change the future for children in Santiago and soon in the United States!  We will not go into debt to expand.  If want more information on how you can volunteer in Santiago, Chile or New York, please contact us.  We are sending a team to Chile in October.  If you can, please use the “Donate” button to make a tax-deductible gift today! Lily, We can have a better future.

LILIANAWe have known Liliana since she was 12 years old. That was almost 13 years ago. She has worked hard to get ahead, but it has not been easy. The wounds inflicted and the abuses experienced have marked her personality and life, and that greatly affects her in many areas. On the other hand, in our present system it is very difficult to get ahead when you have fallen and try to get up and grow and believe and be happy. For example, if Liliana wants to purchase a house, she has no resources sufficient to be able to get a mortgage and so is not trusted by the banks (which is certain), but neither is she qualified for a social services house since she is not with her children nor her husband in Chile. Thus the system prefers Liliana to have another child or a partner. Facing this, many young women continue in the cycle of poverty and exclusion. Another new year begins for the House of Hope!

Wow!  I can’t believe that the House of Hope is preparing to celebrate its third birthday this month. I can remember when it was only a dream, a prayer request. Thank you Lord for answered prayer. Thank you Lord for meeting our needs. Thank you Lord for a dedicated staff that has worked so hard to prepare the young women of the House of Hope to serve the Lord and lead an independent life. Thank you Lord for each of the young women who are at the HoH and for those that have come and gone. Thank you Lord for “all “of our supporters, who have prayed for us, served with us and have sacrificially given of their finances so that the HoH can operate month to month. Thank you for the awesome interns that you have sent to us. They have made such a difference to our ministry!

As the Founder and Director of Vision for Chile / House of Hope, I am in awe at what the Lord has done. I just want to say with a humble heart, Thank you Lord! Happy Birthday House of Hope!

Tom Orme, Executive Director. Vision for Chile

Another new year begins for the House of Hope!  I wish that all of you could have been there for the ribbon cutting, dedication ceremony and the pledge that each of the girls made that very first day.  I went down to represent the Advisory Board of Vision for Chile.  There have been growing pains and things that have not gone as we anticipated.  We North Americans sometimes have problems understanding the Chilean culture (as they have problems understanding us)!  We have had girls become the first in their families to complete high school!  We are preparing for our first graduate with a degree beyond high school!

I am so excited about what God has in store for the House of Hope in the years to come!  October will see the near completion of the expanded dormitory, micro-business and training space.  The number of volunteers working with the House of Hope as grown exponentially!

I am also excited about the progress that is being made on the new Vision for Children!  Same ministry, expanded vision!  God is really working!  Come join us in October, February or both!

Bob Howen, President, Vision for Children

Thank you so much for the greetings and kind wishes.  We thank God because He is over all things and our ministry is based on Christ.  We thank everyone: all friends, families, churches, companies that make sacrifices with us and believe that education can change the future of our young women and that God is the perfect balance.  This third anniversary gives us more strength to continue advancing in our main objective which is to show Christ’s light by means of education and give hope to more young women in the near future.  Continue praying for us, for those who are leading the ministry, for the current and future young women who have taken the difficult path of fighting against the current of “normal” statistics of our reality in La Pintana – Chile, which is the lack of education (only about 30% finish high school), the situation of extreme poverty, violence, and addictions.  On this difficult path we try to encourage them with love, discipline, and perseverance.  We know that they can overcome this, be resilient in this very conflictive environment, and lastly be a support to the society by most importantly being another light and witness of peace.
